Why fiber and needle felting became my main medium

I was born in a city known for its textile factories. Both my parents worked there.
When I was young, my mother often talked to me about different kinds of fabric — how they felt, how they were made, why each one behaved differently. Without realizing it, I began to notice texture, weight, softness, and resistance. My relationship with fiber started there.
Needle felting came into my life much later. I grew up in a tropical country, where wool, sheep, and felting felt distant and unfamiliar. I first encountered needle felting at the age of 27, and the connection was immediate. The repetitive motion of shaping wool with a barbed needle — satisfying, rhythmic, and deliberate — puts me into a state of focus. It calms me, grounds me, and keeps me alert all at once.
Through fiber and needle felting, I found a language that speaks to both my hands and my inner rhythm.
